The Hire Process

1) Visit the The Gear page and choose what you want

2) Get in touch to sort out the details of your hire

3) Pay your invoice and sign a Hire Agreement

4) Your gear is delivered on drop-off day

5) You have an awesome trip with your ultralight gear!

6) Return gear, as agreed

7) Gear is checked, bond is processed

General Policies and FAQs

Pricing

  • You will find hire charges listed on the gear list (see gear page for link). 
  • Hire charges include the first two days of hire. All additional days are charged at a day rate. 
  • You won't pay for days that you receive or return gear, just the days in between.

The Bond

  • All hires require payment of a security bond to cover loss, damage etc.
  • I will advise you of the value of the bond when we arrange the details of your hire. 
  • Expect the bond amount to be roughly equivalent to the retail price of the item(s).
  • Under normal conditions the bond is fully refundable (subject to terms of Hire Agreement)

Collection and Return of Gear

  • We will organise this when we arrange your hire, we'll try to find the most convenient solution for all. I am based in Seaford VIC.
  • The general rule is that I (LFH) will be responsible for getting the gear to you and you will be responsible for getting it back to me (mail, drop-off, meet-up).

Appropriate Use

  • In general, the gear I supply is designed for activities that involve self-propelled wilderness travel (hiking, ski-touring, packrafting, bikebacking etc).
  • The gear is NOT designed for holiday campgrounds, car-camping, glamping, hunting, 4WD touring, music festivals, and the like.
    You will find there are MUCH better options for camping gear if this is your plan (ask me and I'll help you!).  
  • No smoking or pets inside any of the shelters.
  • Air travel with the gear is fine but you MUST put ALL hire gear (including backpacks) inside another bag to protect it in when checking it in as luggage. Where possible also apply this policy to trains, busses, utes, yaks ... or any other kind of travel.

    Cancellation Policy

    • I'd really appreciate it if you let me know you're cancelling as soon as possible, so I can make the gear available for someone else.
    • If you cancel and it's 10 days or less to the first day of your hire then you'll still need to pay in full.
    • If it's more than 10 days away then I'll cancel your booking and refund all your money, no problem.

    Loss, Damage, Wear and Tear

      • Ultralight hiking gear is functional and durable when used as intended, but it’s not indestructible, and some care is needed.
      • Please use the gear correctly and treat it kindly, and you shouldn't have any problems. 
      • I’ve done a lot of backpacking and camping and know very well the normal wear that comes with usage. 
      • Generally speaking, rips, tears, holes, burns, stains, missing parts (etc) are NOT normal wear and tear and you will be charged.
